INDEPENDENT FUNERAL DIRECTORS SERVING LUTON, BEDFORDSHIRE
24/7 SERVICE

Bespoke Funeral arrangements for the families and community of Luton, Bedfordshire

Our aim at John Saunders & Son is to make arranging the funeral of your loved one as stress-free as possible for you, from the first phone call or visit, to the day of the service itself and beyond.

ABOUT JOHN SAUNDERS & SON

John Saunders and Son have been providing bespoke funeral services to Luton families since the late 1800s.

Today we are still an independent family owned business and are proud of our heritage and reputation for providing the personal touch. Whatever the time of day or night, our small friendly team of staff are available to speak to in person, 365 days a year, to guide and support you during your time of need.

Although we are dedicated to providing traditional client care and standards, we also keep pace with modern trends so, whether you require a traditional service or something different, we will help you create the perfect funeral for your loved one.

Like a great many Funeral Directors, John Saunders & Son was originally a building company…. It is not entirely clear exactly when our founder – The John Saunders immortalised in our name – branched into the Funeral Profession, but we do have in our possession a funeral invoice from 1873, and it seems likely that we have been ‘Undertaking’ funeral arrangements since well before that date.

Our roots lie in the High Town area of Luton and, although we no longer have our stables in Taylor Street, our office is still situated on the ground floor of the original workshop building where many of the tools and machines remain in-situ.

WHY JOHN SAUNDERS & SONS?

Because we believe every funeral should be as unique as the person that it's for. We will help you arrange a unique and fitting tribute for your loved one. Tell us what you want and we'll do our best to make it happen.

DAY AND NIGHT SERVICE

No matter what the time of day or night someone is always available to answer the telephone. If a loved one has passed away at home or in a nursing home and the attending doctor has given permission for them to be moved, we will attend at your convenience in order to bring the deceased into our care with the gentle respect that they deserve.

CONTINUITY OF CARE

The small, close-knit, nature of our team means that we can offer families the reassurance and comfort of dealing with the same person from their first enquiry through to the last contact.

AFTER THE FUNERAL

Although a Funeral helps us to achieve closure, there are often details that still need to be resolved and completed after the day.
If cremation has taken place, then we can help you with the Cremated Remains. Perhaps a beautiful storage container to keep in your home or garden, a burial plot locally or elsewhere, attractive scatter tubes for travel and easy dispersal outside or even memorial fireworks.

SERVICES & PRICING

John Saunders & Sons Funeral services are designed with flexibility, compassion & understanding. There is no right or wrong way to plan a funeral, it's personal. From bespoke traditional funerals, with 'Ardmour' coffins' to simple low-cost options.

SUPPORTING YOU THROUGH GRIEF

The death of someone you love is among life’s most painful events, but John Saunders & Son wants you to know that you are not alone. We provide a selection of funeral services and resources to help those in grief, so get in touch to find out more.

MEMORY GIVING

These days it has become very common for families to ask for donations to be made in memory of their loved one to a charity of their choice, rather than sending flowers.  Increasingly, we find that donors are requesting to be able make those donations in memory of their friend or family member online and, to that end we have teamed up with Memory Giving.

Memory Giving was started in 2010 by two 5th generation funeral directors and their aim is to provide a safe, secure and transparent service to facilitate online memorial donations in a simple, respectful and efficient manner.  Each online donor can leave a personal message if they so wish.

Collected donations are passed weekly, directly to the chosen charity's bank account, with gift aid applied where possible.  Memory Giving are fully compliant in terms of Data Protection.

Donations can be made, where the family have requested this as an option, by following the embedded link and searching for the name of your loved one.

"We used the services of John Saunders and son recently. Marie looked after us with care and empathy covering everything. On the day of the service, we were guided through without a hitch. We would like to thank all at John Saunders for their help and care at this painful and sad time. Would highly recommend."
